Tulane University is proud to partner with GradGuard to offer tuition insurance. GradGuard’s Tuition Insurance Plan helps students and their families overcome the financial losses that may result from events which force students to withdraw from the term due to a covered medical reason. Beginning December 2, 2024, students and authorized users (parents) will be presented with a new online enrollment option in the Student Accounts portal.
Tuition insurance must be purchased before the deadline to withdraw with 100% tuition and fee refund and is offered as a voluntary benefit to our families. Your participation is not required but highly recommended.
GradGuard's Tuition Insurance can reimburse tuition, fees, room, and dining if a student withdraws at any time during the covered term due to a covered reason such as:
- Covered Serious Injury or Illness such as mononucleosis, a severe head injury, or COVID-19
- Chronic Illness such as diabetes or an auto-immune disorder
- Mental Health Conditions like depression, anxiety, suicide/attempted suicide.
- Death of a payer(s)
- Loss of employment of a tuition payer(s)
Covered withdrawals can take place any time during the covered term. GradGuard also offers members special access to an Assistance Hotline to help students and their families take care of emergencies and unexpected issues.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I purchase tuition insurance?
A purchase option will be presented to students and authorized users within the Student Accounts portal each semester once the semester billing has begun (approximately six weeks before the class start date) and will continue until the last date to drop classes with 100% tuition and fee refund (per Academic Calendar). Simply complete the online form to purchase the plan.

How much coverage should I purchase?
The online purchase option includes a default coverage amount based on the average costs of tuition, fees, housing, and room for students in your home school and education level. This calculation does not include scholarships and grants, which are awarded individually and vary widely. Your costs may vary according to your selected degree program, registration choices, scholarship and grant awards, housing preference, and other topics. Depending on your unique circumstances, the default coverage amount may be more coverage than you need or may not be enough coverage.
Tip: Consider using our payment plan worksheets to calculate your out-of-pocket expenses. The Tulane Installment Prepayment Plan (TIPP) worksheets can be downloaded from https://studentaccounts.tulane.edu/tulane-installment-prepayment-plan.
It is your decision to accept the default coverage amount or calculate your own coverage amount.
How do I change my coverage amount?
If you have determined that your preferred coverage amount differs from the default coverage provided in the online enrollment form, do not use the online form to enroll. Contact GradGuard directly to enroll in the plan with your custom coverage amount by visiting https://gradguard.com/tuition/tulane or calling (877) 497-6603.
Can more than one payer enroll in a tuition insurance plan?
Only one Tuition Insurance Plan by GradGuard may be purchased per student per semester. Please carefully discuss options with your payer(s) before enrolling. If you rely on more than one payer, please be aware that additional options may be available to your payers through their existing insurance provider(s), and they should be encouraged to explore those options with their insurance advisor(s).
